On Time Machines, Steph Curry, and Manifesting a Rancher: This Week at Immigrantly
Dear Hyphenly Readers,
This week has been a real swirl of highs and lows.
On the high end: Rosalía dropped LUX, a multilingual, orchestral fever dream recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra in 13 languages. It’s maximalist, ambitious, and entirely her. Linguist Sophia Galer has been breaking down the album’s linguistic layers—definitely worth a listen.
On the low: we lost Alice Wong, MacArthur Fellow and a giant in American disability activism, at just 51. Through storytelling, advocacy, and community organizing, she reshaped conversations around ableism. Most recently, she raised millions to help restore connectivity for Palestinians in Gaza. Her impact will echo for generations.
And somewhere in between those highs and lows is where most of us live, right? The days when belonging feels out of reach or progress feels stuck. That’s exactly why we’re excited to share something new.
Belong on Your Own Terms, our new app, gives you tools to live your truth: fully, fearlessly, and without apology. It’s a major milestone in our mission to defy stereotypes and reshape narratives around identity.
The first 100 subscribers will be entered to win one of two $50 gift cards for trying it out.
As always, Hyphenly is your space for the best stories and conversations: about immigrants, by immigrants. This week, we’re catching you up on everything happening across the Immigrantly Media podcast network.
IMMIGRANTLY
What does it mean to belong in America without proving your worth? Why are immigrants still expected to be extraordinary just to be seen as enough? In this deeply resonant conversation, host Saadia Khan is joined by Bilal Lakhani, Pakistani-American journalist, writer, and host of the podcast pehchaan, to explore identity, home, immigrant guilt, and the often-unspoken emotional cost of leaving the place you love. Bilal shares how moving from Karachi to the United States led to clinical depression, why raising his daughter changed his understanding of belonging, and how many immigrants internalize the belief that they must achieve in order to deserve space in America.
You can connect with Saadia on X @swkkhan or email her at [email protected] to share your thoughts about the episode.
SPORTLY
Steph Curry is officially leaving Under Armour, ending one of the most surprising and influential athlete-brand partnerships in modern sports history. But how did a relationship that reshaped sneaker culture, revived an apparel company, and built a $173 million business line come undone? In this episode of Sportly, host Kavitha Davidson breaks down the full story from the now-infamous Nike meeting where executives called him “Stefan,” to Curry becoming the face of Under Armour.

LOVE-LY
Manifesting a Rancher: Cross-Cultural Dating, Traditions & Non-Negotiables
Listen on Spotify and Apple
Length: 44 mins
This week on Love-ly, Mehak gets candid about dating outside the box and her culture. After calling off a budding long-distance romance, she reflects on the deeper reason: she's done settling for anything (or anyone) that doesn't align. Enter comedian Mariza Brussolo, who joins Mehak for an honest, hilarious, and profoundly relatable convo about cross-cultural dating, growing up with traditional values, and navigating love across borders—literal and emotional. From celibacy to cowboy fantasies (yes, she wants a rancher!), they unpack what it means to date with intention, how family and culture shape our "rules," and why finding a true gentleman in the age of dating apps is more complicated than ever.
