Love, Craft, and Klimt

Rahul Mishra’s Stunning Fall 2025 Collection

Dear Hyphenly Readers,

Indian couturier Rahul Mishra has done it again. As the first Indian designer invited to Paris Haute Couture Week, Mishra continues to merge high fashion with traditional Indian craftsmanship. His Fall 2025 collection, Becoming Love, is a breathtaking exploration of the exhilarating process of falling in love.

Mishra’s inspiration? Klimt’s evocative, intimate portraits of women and the Sufi framework of love’s seven stages: attraction, infatuation, surrender, reverence, devotion, obsession, and finally, death.

“Gustav Klimt’s work has always moved me... His subject’s eyes were often closed or averted as if they were lost in another world,” Mishra told Vogue India.

Crafted by over 2,000 artisans, the collection is a masterclass in handmade excellence and sustainability. Nearly 70% of the work is done in rural villages, empowering local craftspeople—an ethos at the heart of Mishra’s practice. Watch the process of creating the collection here:

In a fashion world where Western brands are often accused of cultural appropriation—remember the “Scandinavian scarf” scandal or Prada’s use of Kolhapuri-style sandals without credit? We wanted to spotlight a South Asian designer who honors his roots.
