Birthright, Potato Salad & Wimbledon: A Fourth Worth Celebrating
Dear Hyphenly Readers,
It’s the Fourth of July weekend, and most in the nation are busy celebrating the long weekend, spending time with family, and reflecting on the last 250 years of the United States.
At Immigrantly, we also have a lot to celebrate. Sportly, our sports history podcast, was recently recognized by Forbes as part of the conversation shaping the future of sports media.
Not only are we celebrating this personal achievement, but we are also overjoyed with the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Birthright Citizenship. We couldn’t be happier that this is happening in the United States on the eve of July 4th.
So, if you want to spend this last weekend celebrating birthright citizenship, Southern cooking, intentional relationships, or just Naomi Osaka’s iconic Wimbledon outfit, we have the perfect recommendations for you!
BITEFULLY
Chef DuVal Warner grew up in Danville, Virginia, surrounded by strong women, Southern cooking, and a community rich with history. From his Aunt Margaret's legendary mac and cheese to his Aunt Shanita's smoked neck bones and collard greens, food was always home. In this episode, Chef Claudia Sandoval sits down with Ranch 45's Chef DuVal to talk about the memories that shaped him: what Juneteenth meant to his family long before it became a federal holiday, the life lessons the Marine Corps gave him that he brings into every kitchen, and the right way to make Southern mac and cheese and potato salad.

Why does Wimbledon still require all-white outfits? Why do fans queue overnight just for a chance to buy tickets? And what do strawberries and cream have to do with elite tennis? In this episode of Sportly, host Kavitha Davidson serves up the fascinating traditions that make Wimbledon unlike any other Grand Slam. From Roger Federer’s orange soles to Serena Williams’ red shorts, this episode dives into the dress code controversies, the history of strawberries, and the passion behind the iconic Wimbledon queue.

LOVE-LY
Anna Gold and Tim Utting's love story began at a Halloween party in 1987. In this episode, Mehak sits down with Anna and Tim, IMAGO practitioners and co-founders of Replenish Relationships, to talk about what it really takes to communicate across differences. They break down the Turtle and the Hailstorm dynamic, why opposites attract but struggle to stick, and why the messy, uncomfortable, "ugly" stages of a relationship might actually be where the growth happens.
