Bad Bunny, The Winter Olympics, and the Modern Dating Divide

Dear Hyphenly Readers,

It’s been a jampacked week.

From the Winter Olympics drama to Superbowl 60, a lot has been taking over American media. There’s a lot of chatter on the new adaptation of Wuthering Heights. People are tuning in to see the America’s Next Top Model documentary. And for us at Immigrantly, we’ve been busy celebrating Ramadan and Lunar New Year.

For me, February is always the month I look forward to the most. It signals the end of winter… the days become longer and the snow starts melting from the ground. I no longer need to pick up a shovel and dread a winter storm and I feel energized and ready to do stuff again. Just yesterday, I went to a climbing gym with a friend who visited me from Florida for the week. We spent our mornings reading Toni Morrison’s Beloved (it is Black History Month, after all) and our evenings cooking up some delicious TikTok recipes

There is hope and optimism in the air. If you’re struggling to feel it, tune into our latest episodes. Here’s the roundup for the week:

IMMIGRANTLY

Bad Bunny and the Politics of Saying “I’m Puerto Rican”
Listen on Spotify or Apple
Length: 53 mins

When Bad Bunny takes the stage in Spanish, millions celebrate. But for many Puerto Ricans, it lands as something deeper: visibility, resistance, and a reminder of a history the United States still struggles to face. In this episode of Immigrantly, Saadia Khan sits down with Becca Ramos, creator of Welcome to El Barrio, (new episodes release every Tuesday) to discuss colonialism, diaspora, and the complicated politics of calling yourself Puerto Rican—not Puerto Rican American.

Why This Is America’s Best Figure Skating Team at the Olympics in Over 20 Years
Listen on Spotify and Apple
Length: 56 mins

In this episode of Sportly, host Kavitha Davidson sits down with figure skating expert Jackie Wong to break down the unprecedented comeback story that has the skating world buzzing. It's been 28 years since an American woman won Olympic gold in figure skating and 20 years since the US won a medal in the individual women's event. But 2026 might finally be the year that drought ends. Figure skating analyst Jackie Wong explains why the Russian ban changed the competitive landscape, how the triple axel provides a massive scoring advantage, Alyssa Liu's remarkable comeback story, the US vs Japan rivalry, why Ilia Malinin is potentially the best American men's skater in two generations, and why this is the first Olympics in 24 years where Team USA has sent three women with legitimate podium potential.
